The Foreign Ministry formulates, implements and presents the foreign policy of the Government of Israel. It represents the state vis-à-vis foreign governments and international organizations, explains its positions and problems throughout the world, endeavors to promote its economic, cultural, and scientific relations, and fosters cooperation with developing countries. Israel currently maintains diplomatic relations with 162 countries. The Ministry promotes relations with Diaspora communities and safeguards the rights of Israeli citizens abroad.

The areas of responsibility of the Ministry of Justice are numerous and varied and include legal advice and legislation, the Office of the State Attorney, Civilian Legal Aid, the Public Defender, the Department of the Public Trustee and the Official Receiver, the Department of Land Settlement Registration, the Department of the Chief Government Appraiser, the National Center for Mediation, the various registrars including the Companies Registrar, the Patent, Designs and Trademark Registrar, the Information Storehouse Registrar, additional registrars and also units responsible for professional licensing, including the Council of Chartered Accountants, the Council of Land Appraisers, the Mediators Registrar and the Department for Licensing Private Investigators and Security Services, Jurisdiction relating to the Prohibition on Money Laundering Law, and the Registrar of Authorizing Bodies which was established pursuant to the Electronic Signature Law.

The role of the judicial authority is to decide disputes between individuals and between an individual and the government. The judicial authority plays a central role in ensuring statutory and constitutional norms to ensure that Israeli society is law abiding and respects human rights, and in which the government, too, acts in a lawful manner. The courts defend human rights and limit the use of governmental power to the confines of the law, while balancing the needs of the public and those of the individual. The Supreme Court, which stands at the head of the judicial pyramid, is the authorized interpreter of laws enacted by the Israeli parliament – the Knesset.
